This is a workshop that will cover:

crafting your own fire-kit: collecting materials from the landscape to use for fire starting

learning a bushcraft method to start fire

cooking Nordic Cookies using a cast-iron cookie press over the fire

basic level tool use

ethical material collection/respect for the land

hot tea will also be included

Fire is ancient, it lives in our bodies and bones.

Beyond the fire we make outdoors, or lighting a candle in your home, we also have an inner fire. The drive to go forth on any given day or passion for things we love- perhaps this is why we are able to connect with fire so easily as humans. As within, so without.

This workshop will be held on our friends property. We request that folks keep in mind that the property is home to our friend, as well as home to the more than human world: plants, animals, birds, trees, insects. A lot of awareness is placed on respect and care for the land. Naturally, the landscape will ultimately be holding the workshop, with the spirit of fire being centric.

Our focus will begin with tree and plant ID, sharing how to identify, ethically collect, and process natural material for starting fire. This material may also become apart of your fire-kit. Once the fire is lit, hot tea will be made, and we will get the cast-iron cookie press heating up. Other additions to the cookies will include chocolate, and hand-whipped whipped cream. With this being a hands on workshop, folks can anticipate a basic level of tool use. Tools will include: full-tang knives, hand saws, flint and steel.
